DAL KICHADI

Dal Kichadi is a one pot meal perfect for lunch box.It is very easy to prepare for lunch on lazy week ends. The taste will be inbetween  sambar sadam and pongal. The recipe will resemble that pongal is tempered with spices.
I tried this recipe from Raks kitchen.The best side for dal kichadi is potato chips or onion raita/raw onions.now lets move on to the recipe. 
INGREDIENTS
Raw rice
½ cup
Moong dal
½ cup
Carrot
½
Beans
4
Frozen peas
¼ cup
Turmeric powder
¼ tsp
Red chilly powder
1 tsp
Garam masala powder
¼ tsp
Chopped Ginger
1 tsp
Green chilly
2
Tomato
2
Jeera
1 tsp
Oil   /Ghee
2 Tbsp
Salt
To Taste
Curry leaves,coriander leaves
As needed

 PROCEDURE
  • Soak rice and moong dal together for 30 mins. Rinse well.
  • Chop the vegetables,tomato,green chilly.
  • Pressure cook rice,dal,vegetables,turmeric,salt with 4 cups of water for 3 whistles
  • When the pressure subsides open the cooker and mash it well.
  • Mean while heat oil/ghee and temper with jeera. Then add curry leaves,tomatoes,ginger,green chilly.
  • Now add red chilly powder,garam masala powder,coriander leaves.
  • Fry till the tomatoes turn mushy.Add this to the dal,rice mixture.
  • Mix well.Check for salt.
If it is dry add hot water and make it gravy like consistency.When it cools down it will get thick.
